Remember that Leo meme used to represent the impaired shelling out of likes? He was on the back of a yacht making it rain with hearts, hearts, hearts? While Leo remains a treat for the eyes and The Wolf of Wall Street is always a strong contender for movie night, the deep-rooted issue here is something of an ill-thought out and smothering overkill.
Marketplace, Instagram, Carol's yard sale down the street; poke around any of these for just a few minutes and you're bound to run into a friendly overuse of the classification Teak. We seem to believe that somewhere between the fact that a piece of furniture came from our grandfathers house, coupled with its lighter wood colour automatically defaults as teak and can be concluded as such without any further information.
Wood else do we know about it?
Teak is a wood from trees found in tropical climates and harvested mainly for use as a weather resistant material. With its high oil content and tight grain, teak wood is primarily used in watercraft production both for exterior boat decks and interior trim. Because of its unmatchable density, teak furniture is especially heavy and very durable. All teak furniture is considered vintage as mass production long ago concluded due to the nature of the resource, stringent exporting laws & the costly challenges associated when working with it.

It's ok to not be teak. It's still enviable vintage.
So you got a bonus check at work and while it may not be enough to cover those four wheels you've had your eye on, it is still a bonus. Teak is nice to have, nice to find and nice to show off but at the end of the day it's just a variation of something bigger. Mid-century modern is an entire design trend now with a cult following that began in--you guessed it--mid century and has since made a strong comeback feeding the cravings of interior lovers everywhere. While the century's mid was also the height of teak manufacturing, that's not to say that teak qualifies its design era. While teak furniture is mid century, not all mid century furniture is teak.
